For services in our chapel please see VISIT US or click here.

10.2.18 The monastic community has great pleasure in announcing the election of the 6th Abbot of Prinknash, Dom Martin McLaughlin

Dom Martin was born in Coatbridge, Glasgow in 1964, the 6th child of a large Catholic family.  He entered Prinknash in 1985, studied at Downside Abbey and St Benet’s Hall, Oxford, from where he holds an M.A. in Theology, and the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem.  For the last 17 years he has been the Bursar of our community, and a well-known retreat and conference giver.

Welcome to our website, an electronic expression of a spiritual and physical reality that many people are already exploring and valuing.

Prinknash stands for peace.  That peace flows out from the praise of God which is carried out seven times a day by the monks in their chapel.  It is found, too, on the estate, in the shop and cafe, in the walled garden.  There are many ways of finding this peace, that will help you to come to terms with the joys and sorrows and challenges of daily life.

We invite you to explore this website.  Thank you for your visit.  We wish to assure you of our prayer and intercession for you, and for those whom you love, living and dead.

Some Christians are Olympic Torchbearers.  They go round the world lighting the fires of faith.  The monks’ task, by contrast, is to be hidden in the desert; to dig a well, deeper and deeper, until they find the waters of the spirit, waters which they now invite you to enjoy!
